5th AGM/ CME/ Fundraising Dinner/NZ tour

The 5th AGM, including fundraising dinner/dance was held at the Novotel Hotel in Ellerslie, Auckland, NZ on July 11, 2009. Around 300 participants took part in the event from all around the world including North America, Asia, Europe and Australia/NZ.
CME lectures were held during the morning of the event.
Masters of the ceremony Dr.Daniel Gunaseelan, and Dr.Yogesh Pushparajah narrated the event that included slide show presentation “A Trip Down Memory Lane” which provided information about Jaffna Medical Faculty student’s life both past and present.
Dr.Rama Velalagan delivered the welcome speech.
President of the JMFOA Dr.Sinna Selvaratnam gave a speech on JMFOA chronology, past, present and future activities and its achievements.
The Secretary’s report was given by Dr.Norman Shakespeare.
Member’s children enthusiastically performed singing Tamil Songs.
Chief Guest Prof.Ramadas and Dr.Mrs.Ramadas gave speeches about Jaffna Medical Faculty memories and overcoming the difficulties by both teachers and students. In addition they remarked about the achievements of JMFOA.
Guest of Honor Dr.Jega Pasupathi delivered a speech.
An excellent dance performance by Gowtham Jeyabalan followed which was a collection of Michael Jackson Dance Moves.
Past Jaffna Medial Faculty Microbiology Lecturer Dr.Naranthiranathan delivered a gust speech.
New committee members were introduced for 2009 -2010.
Bharathanatiyam Dance performance followed this introduction of the committee.
The Australian committee then delivered a speech about formation of JMFOA Australian Chapter and its future activities.
Dr.K.Sivasuthan concluded the proceedings with a vote of thanks on behalf of the New Zealand committee.
A good dinner meal was served and Karaoke/ Dance followed.
The following day July 12 a bus tour was arranged to Rotarua, NZ followed by one week tour to South Island with CME which was enjoyed by the members and their families.

The CME activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint sponsorship of the Medical Education Council of Pensacola (MECOP) and Jaffna Medical Faculty Overseas Alumni (JMFOA). The MECOP is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for the physicians and personal responsibility for the contents, quality and scientific integrity of this CME activity. The MECOP designates this educational activity for maximum of 4 AMA/PRA Category I Credit. Physicians only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
